We LOVE Eyes Love It!

Full lush lashes are the ultimate beauty accessory and this has become our absolute favorite pick for mascara.

TIGI's Bed Head Eyes Love It! Mascara in black (around $12.00)has amazing consistency from the get-go, no waiting weeks for it to thicken up for maximum coating potential! It's oversized tapered applicator lengthens, adds volume and separates lashes perfectly.

I don't know about you but I would wear false lashes everyday of my life if I had the time and energy to apply them. This mascara gives the glamour of false lashes without the hassle.

Perfectly thick enough to coat each and every lash this mascara glides on with ease and smells great too (think sudsy rose petals). It's not too thin so it gives your lashes that perfectly imperfect look.  In our opinions no one should look like the spend a half an hour separating their lashes with a safety-pin.
Smudgy = Sexy.

The Top Ten Things You Need To Know About Eyebrows...

1. The eyebrow should start at the inner corner of your eye. It should extend to the outer edge of the eye in line with the edge of the nose.  The highest part or arch is mostly recommended to align with the tip of the nose and then to align with the pupil.

2. They frame your face and all of your features... so please stop making them too thin, too short, and too sparse. They should look as natural as possible.. (the shape of a comma or jack-o-lantern brow is not okay for anyone..)

3. We know that mistakes occur in the world of eyebrow maintenance. Should you find yourself in a pickle, we totally recommend Laura Geller's Long Lasting Eyebrow Marker. It is not too dark and does not smudge.

4. We shape a lot of brows in the salon/make-up studio. Our tool of choice is a wax pot. Waxing has become the norm for most of our clients. The question I seem to answer the most is "Why do I break out after a wax service?" The reason is that the root of the hair follicle, the papilla, is located directly above the sebaceous gland. The sebaceous gland secretes oil. When the follicle is removed, it stimulates the sebaceous gland and it is similar to an exploding volcano of oil. Most places then apply a cooling gel, or redness reducer.. thus clogging the pore. My suggestion is to use a very very fine talc. The talc will absorb excess oil with out clogging the pore. THEN LEAVE IT ALONE!!! Being product junkies, we know how hard it is to put the products down.. but for the love of god, walk away.

5.  Pluckorexia. The worst thing about pluckorexia is that those that have it.... usually have no idea. It takes an awesome friend to help you put the tweezers down. Cameron was that friend for me. We were getting ready to go out on the town in NYC one night and she just told me ... "Girl, you need to stop fooling with your eyebrows." I took a step back and help my heart for a second. I turned, looked in the mirror and then..... SHIT! She was right. I let my eyebrows grow for about 3 months with NO maintenance. Then Cameron, also a stylist, re-shaped them for me.  There are two lessons to be learned from this story...  1. Don't let your friends walk around with eyebrows that look like footprints on a treasure map and 2. LISTEN when your friends try to help you out with your look. For the growing in period, we like the Sonia Kashuk® Brow Kit Arch Alert Palette (at Target for $9.99) It is a powder mixed with a wax. It will hold everything in it's proper place and define while you get your brows back!

Secret is Out....

Okay... So we hear it all the time.. "Your hair looks SOOO good!" "How do you get your hair to stay like that?" and most of all... " I wish I had time to make my hair look like that." Well, in honor of our new blog... we are going to tell you the secret. The Dirty Secret....

Tony & Guy's DIrty Secret dry shampoo from the Rockaholic line. The tag line on the bottle says that "It keeps your hair rock'in one more day".  Packaged in an aerosol can the scented talc is sprayed onto the roots to absorb excess oil and freshen a not so fresh fro.  It has a citrusy, soapy, fresh lime scent and honestly will change your life. It can cover up (but not erase, ha ha) your dirty secret from the night before... you know? Not washing your hair. Why? What did you think we were talking about? Ha!

I think about all the trips to Vegas that I didn't have this product. Think of all of the extra stupid mistakes I could have made while I was spending time washing my hair! We insist that everyone pick this one up. This is a five star must have... FOR SURE.

The Scoop on Expensive Conditioning Treatments

So, this morning I got a text right before I was leaving to open the salon. It was Christy. We love Christy. She has been a client for about four years and even crossed over into a friend of ours. She needed help. Christy has been trying to grow her out for the better part of 2009. It has been tough because she has been addicted to super blonde hair for so long, that her hair is not in the best condition.  This morning she was asking for an appointment for a deep conditioning treatment.

We headed out to pick up something extra special for her. We had recently bursted her blond bubble and let her know that she needed to take it down a notch.. a make- under. We took her platinum hair to a deep beautiful brunette with some highlights. Based on their reputation for being a great product line, Lauren and I decided to get Essential Repair Restorative Hair Masque by Pureology. Pureology has an antifade complex which keeps the hair color fresh for a long period of time.

The result was disappointing. We were hoping that we would experience a total transformation in the hair's texture. I mean come on, it is $60.00 for 5 ounces. (about 18 applications) We were left feeling like we paid for the name and packaging, which promised to nourish and renew moisture and fortify. We felt like two stylists that had just been robbed.  We give this product no stars.....

What Your Stylist Isnt Telling You and Why...

The hard part about being a stylist is TIME. It is ironic that the more you perfect the art of hair and make-up the less time you have to spend with your clients. The more demand there is for your services the less quality time you  are able to devote to each person. In a world where we are all trying to get it right the first time... we have decided to let you know the minute we discover a new styling secret, new must-have product or trend in the world of hair and make-up.

We promise to give it to you straight. The good, the bad and the ugly. We welcome your questions and any feed back. Here is to getting pretty!
